Based on the South Bank in London, we are currently recruiting for a Scenic Metal Fabricator Apprentice (Fixed Term Contract – 24 Months - £313 per week)
What is a Scenic Metal Fabricator?
A scenic metal fabricator in the performing arts is responsible for creating all metal aspects of stage scenery. The designer produces a sketch or model box of their design for the set and the highly skilled scenic carpenters bring this design to life on the stage.
What is scenery?
Stage scenery can be anything from simple flats and platforms to elaborate buildings and bridges to lifts, restaurants and swimming pools.
What is a Scenic Metal Fabricator Apprenticeship?
As an invaluable member of the metal team within the scenic construction department, the Apprentice Scenic Metal Fabricator will learn core welding skills alongside gaining a knowledge of materials and scenic construction techniques that will open up future opportunities of work in events, film, TV and theme parks, as well as other theatre companies. The apprenticeship will be based at the NT’s flagship workshops on London’s South Bank with opportunities for networking and placements in other leading organisations across the UK. You will also study for a Level 2 Welding apprenticeship at the College of North West London.
This position is not open to those who already have a Level 4 qualification, such as a degree, an HND or any post graduate qualification
By the end of the apprenticeship we expect you will be proficient in all the following areas:
• Tools, Machinery and Equipment
• Health & Safety
• Scenic Metal Fabrication
• Technical drawing skills including basic AutoCad
• Basic installation of scenery on stage
