Director of Enterprises

The National Theatre (NT) is looking for a creative and entrepreneurial Director of Enterprises to lead National Theatre Enterprises (NTE), the commercial trading subsidiary of the NT.

We are proud to manage all our food and drink outlets, events, retail and publishing activities ourselves and see these activities as a key draw for new and regular audiences.  We want visitors to experience an exceptional public welcome and distinctive offer that makes the NT a destination for more than theatre whilst reflecting the same qualities of excellence and variety seen in the work on the stage. 

The role of Director of Enterprises has accountability to the RNTE Board for setting the strategy for these areas, leading the team and growing turnover and profit both through the existing business and the creation of new opportunities on site. As a member of the National’s Senior Management Team the Director will report to the Chief Operating Officer.

This role requires the post-holder to be strategic and innovative with a strong ability to execute and deliver results. The sizeable NTE team is integral in creating a positive ‘buzz’ around our spaces and enhancing audience and visitor experience.  The role will identify ways to strengthen the offer to new and existing audiences by providing high quality creative food and drink, retail, and other services and encourage visitors to engage with everything the NT offers. 

The successful candidate will be an accomplished and creative commercial director, with outstanding leadership skills, combined with experience of working within a customer centric organisation of similar scale/ complexity. You will be able to demonstrate up-to-date knowledge of market developments in food and drink, retail, event delivery and commercially-informed audience experience and will have the ability to inspire innovation and entrepreneurialism in others. You will have empathy for the performing arts and for the mission and values of the NT.

Pay Range: Commensurate with experience
