We are looking for a Construction Supervisor to join the National Theatre Workshops Team.
The purpose of this role is to supervise a production from the initial designs stages, through the carpentry and metal workshops, and on to the stage. This will involve working with the Head of Carpentry and Metal Workshops on the costing process, the draughting team with the bench drawings, the Scenic Construction Project Coordinator on the progress of each production, and the carpentry and metal work teams to produce the necessary scenic elements. The Construction Supervisor will need to liaise with the creative teams and work closely with the Production Managers.
This is a working post and the Construction Supervisor is required to undertake the full range of duties specified for a Scenic Carpenter or Welder/Fabricator when not carrying out the duties of a Construction Supervisor. This includes the manufacture, modification and repair of scenery.
The Construction Supervisor will help manage the flow of work through the workshops and the day to day running of the spaces. They will create an environment that is safe and welcoming where staff can contribute to success of a production by offering up their ideas and solutions to the creative process in an appropriate, and timely manner. The Construction Supervisor will also support and develop the apprenticeship programme and nurture entry level roles in the workshops.
The successful candidate will have the following:
- Considerable experience leading a team and supervising projects
- Significant knowledge of scenic construction and experience of working in a busy workshop environment and onstage in a senior capacity.
- A robust understanding of health & safety in a busy workshop environment and onstage.
- An awareness and understanding of the Theatre Green Book and sustainability
- Strong IT skills and a good understanding of AutoCAD and CAM.
