RECRUITMENT PRIVACY STATEMENT
The National Theatre will collect the data of candidates which includes but is not limited to personal data about your identity, where you live and your career history. This data belongs to you and we have a duty to respect that.
During the course of your application with us, we will process your personal data electronically and will treat it lawfully and legitimately, in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulations.
The data will only viewed by National Theatre employees involved in the recruitment process. It will be treated confidentially and will only be processed by those persons authorised to do so.

How and Why Your Data is Used
Your data helps us to be legally compliant, assess your suitability for a role and to understand if we need to make reasonable adjustments for you. It may also be used for applications for roles where we are obliged to ask candidates to disclose any criminal convictions. Additionally, your data will be captured for equal opportunities monitoring purposes. We use our recruitment portal to administer your job application and for onboarding our successful candidates however we do not use automated decision making in our processes.
Persons with access to your Data
Your information will be shared internally with members of the People Team and interviewers involved in the application and recruitment process, and our IT department if access to the data is necessary for the performance of their roles.
We will not share your data with third parties, unless your application for employment is successful and you are made an offer of employment. We will then share your data with former employers to obtain references for you, and, depending on your role may share your data with the Disclosure and Barring Service to obtain necessary criminal records checks where necessary.
We will only transfer your data outside of the UK if you are a foreign national or have worked internationally. This will be for the sole purpose of obtaining a reference from a referee outside of the UK, to undertake a necessary background check from a country outside of the UK or for the purposes of facilitating a visa application where necessary.
Protecting and Holding your Data
The National Theatre has a duty to keep your data securely. We have stringent internal policies and controls in place to ensure that your data is not lost, accidentally destroyed, misused or disclosed, and is only accessed by authorised persons. Your data will not be shared with any other third party and will not be shared internally other than for the processing of your application for employment as detailed above.
If your application is unsuccessful, the National Theatre will hold your personal data electronically for a period of six months, as there may be future employment opportunities for which you could be considered. You are free to withhold your consent for this. If you do not consent to us keeping your data then it will be destroyed.
If your application is successful, any personal data gathered during the recruitment process will be transferred to your electronic personnel file and retained for the duration of your employment.
Your Rights
Under the General Data Protection Regulation 2018, you have the right to:
·Access a copy of your data on request.
·Request that the National Theatre changes incorrect or incomplete data.
·Request the National Theatre to delete or cease the processing of your data.
·Object to the processing of your data where the National Theatre is relying on its legitimate interests as the legal ground for processing.
·Ask the National Theatre to cease the processing of data for a period of time if the data is inaccurate or there is a dispute about whether or not your interests override the National Theatre’s legitimate grounds for processing data.
If you to not wish to provide Personal Data
You are under no statutory obligation to provide data to the National Theatre during the recruitment process. However, please be aware that if you do not provide the information required to assess your suitability for the role, it may not be possible to process your application.
