We are looking for a Skills Centre Project Manager to join the National Theatre Skills Centre (Learning) Team.

Working closely with the Head of NT Skills Centre, this post will plan, manage and deliver courses, events and project placements for young people and those at the start of their career in the theatre, predominantly focussing on Technical and Production roles. The Project Manager is responsible for the delivery of a high-quality and inspiring programme aimed at developing skills in theatre-making and production and raising awareness of career opportunities in theatre. The role sits within the new NT Skills Centre team and will work collaboratively with colleagues to build on existing programmes and develop new opportunities in line with the Skills Centre strategy and ambitions.

The Skills Centre currently delivers, and will continue to develop, a range of activity from early experiences of backstage and off-stage theatre careers to courses and training, both in person and online. The programmes providing a variety of opportunities for development and progression. The Project Manager will work closely across NT departments, in particular with NT technical and production departments, to plan and deliver the of programme work, maximising the offer within the limits of the teams’ capacities.

The post will work closely with the Head of Technical Qualifications, the Design Skills Manager and the Technical Qualifications Project Manager to support progression and connectivity across the Skills Centre offer, and with other Learning teams to open opportunities to a broad range of participants, working with existing and new partner organisations. In addition, the post holder will co-ordinate and represent the NT at the Technical Theatre Training Network programme supporting the exchange of information and learning on behalf of the NT, ensuring knowledge sharing is disseminated.

The Project Manager will be supported by Skills Centre Administrator across the programme and will draw on their support for the administration of activity as required.

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Working with young people as a facilitator or project manager
  • Work as a Stage Manager, Technician and/or Production Manager
  • Excellent organizational skills including the ability to prioritise task within competing work demands and meet deadlines
  • Ability to motivate and engage key stakeholders – including young people, NT colleagues and sector partners
  • Good understanding of technical theatre and production roles
