We are looking for a Trainee Costume Maker to join our Costume Department at the National Theatre.

 

The Costume Department is made up of the following areas:

  • Running Wardrobe.
  • Hire Dept.
  • Costume Workroom.
  • Costume Props.
  • Textile Studio.
  • Costume Supervisor.
  • Assistant Costume Supervisors/ Buyers.

Under the direction of the Head Cutter and their team the Trainee Costume Maker will continue to build upon skills already learned from an appropriate recognised course, they will learn new skills and be part of a team working in a theatre environment. They will share all aspects of the work from making and seeing costumes fitted through to technical and dress rehearsals.

 

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • BA/ HND or equivalent experience in Costume Making or fashion/ clothing.

  • A desire to pursue a career as a Costume Maker.

  • Good accurate hand and machine sewing skills.

  • Familiarity with sewing terminology and range of fabrics.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
