We are looking for a Deputy Director of Production and Technical to join the National Theatre Production and Technical Team.

The Deputy Director of Production & Technical will work closely with the Production & Technical Director (P&TD) to ensure that all technical and production aspects of the artistic programme are realised from the earliest design process to final get out.

They will work alongside the Director or Production & Technical and Heads of Departments to take on responsibility for the motivation, performance standards, safety and skills development of production and technical staff, and will assist in developing an appropriate health & safety culture, and an ethos of skills development and technical excellence.

They will help ensure a consistent experience for Production & Technical Heads of Departments, Production Managers and freelance Production Designers as they develop the NT’s programme of work. They will contribute to the strategic and operational leadership to ensure that the departments are sufficiently well-resourced, flexible and innovative to respond to the artistic demands placed upon them.

The successful candidate will have the following: 

  • Substantial experience and a proven track record in production or technical management within a large producing venue or organisation.
  • Excellent leadership skills including the ability to manage, motivate and develop a group of specialised, professional senior managers.
  • Experience of leading and managing technical and production staff with an understanding of appropriate employment and health and safety legislation.
  • Proven track record of managing safety.
  • A strong collaborative ethos, particularly the ability to build positive relationships with creative teams, Heads of Department and senior management.
