We are looking for a Senior Moving Light Technician to join the National Theatre Lighting Team.

 

The purpose of the role

 

The purpose of the role is as follows:

  • To work as part of the Lighting Resources team, (Moving Light bias), as the lead technician primarily responsible for the coordination, preparation, maintenance, servicing, testing, and logging of all the National Theatre’s Moving Light Fixtures, LED Fixtures, Intelligent Power Control Systems and Smoke, Haze, and Low Fog Machines.
  • Support the Lighting Resources, Operations & Control Managers and Supervisors with identifying common faults across the performance spaces and standardising the maintenance program across the NT.
  • Lead & maintain the internal training of all lighting technicians on all moving light and LED unit servicing through rolling and planned maintenance sessions.
  • Support planned maintenance work with the Lighting Resources team and ensure compliance with current safety and electrical regulations for all equipment, including Portable Appliance Testing.
  • Update the Lighting Resources Department databases, ensuring that equipment is logged and tracked and that test results are recorded correctly.
  • Work closely with the NT Lighting Resources Manager & Supervisors to provide technical support and maintenance for Events and architectural lighting systems across the NT, including foyers, exterior areas, and the NT Studios.
  • To be a ‘Responsible Person’ in terms of assessing and certifying Production/ Project/ Event related Temporary Electrical Installations in adherence to BS7671 & BS7909 in all activity.

The successful candidate will have the following: 

  • A detailed and proven working knowledge of moving light, smoke machine & LED intelligent equipment maintenance within a theatre or warehouse environment
  • An appropriate qualification or demonstrable experience in electronics or related subject that shows a very thorough understanding of the use of electricity and data distribution and networking systems when applied to professional entertainment production lighting systems
  • Extensive experience working in a Professional Lighting Environment
  • An appropriate qualification or demonstrable experience of In Service Inspection & Testing (formally PAT testing) and BS7909 (Temporary Electrical Installations)
  • To be able to demonstrate supervisory and team leadership skills
