We are looking for a Sound and Video Grade 5 Technician to join the National Theatre Sound and Video Team on a 22 Month Fixed Term Contract.
The purpose of the role
We are offering an exciting opportunity to work in a stimulating, dynamic and challenging theatrical environment. This new role provides opportunities for technicians to gain experience and on-the-job training to help them develop a theatre career within their chosen field. This is not a placement or apprentice position and applicants should have a reasonable level of technical ability as they will be expected to work alongside the NT’s professional in-house teams on a day to day basis, producing and running shows to National Theatre standards.
Post-holders will be expected to participate in the full range of technical duties within sound and/or video and are expected to co-operate with colleagues from other disciplines, assisting with appropriate tasks and duties. There is a 3-stage competency progression within Grade 5 and all starters join at Stage 1.
You will be assessed at pre-determined intervals during the contract period and should progress to level 3. It is expected that by contract end, you will have received the appropriate training and have the experience to apply for a skilled, professional Theatre Technician job (Grade 4 by NT standards).
The successful candidate will have the following:
Previous experience or training in a similar role, preferably within a similar-sized venue or production company,
Basic working knowledge of theatre sound and/or video for production and an understanding of their operation and control systems
Basic competency in the use of tools, for fabricating sound/video props and maintenance.
A basic understanding of electrical theory.
The ability to understand sound/video schematics, plans and ground plans.
Good IT skills including Operation of Microsoft packages and other related software.
