We have an exciting opportunity for a placement in the Stage Crew department at the Royal National Theatre.

The National Theatre

The National Theatre is central to the creative life of the country. In its three theatres on the South Bank in London it presents up to 25 new shows a year and productions also play in the West End and on tour.  It broadcasts to cinemas worldwide through National Theatre Live, streams plays free to UK schools and produces a wealth of digital content about theatre.

Through an extensive programme of amplifying activities – platform performances, backstage tours, publications, exhibitions and outdoor events – it recognises that theatre doesn't begin and end with the rise and fall of the curtain.

The Stage Department

The Stage team run and safely manage 3 theatres at the NT, they are made up from a collection of specialists in, Stage, Automation and Rigging. Duties include performing scene changes and other show cues, fitting up, and striking the set for each show, including any flown and automated elements.

The Placement

Work placements in the Stage Department are designed to provide an exciting opportunity for those interested in a career as a Theatre Stage, Automation or Rigging Technician to experience a stimulating, dynamic and challenging theatrical environment.

Placements usually last between two to six weeks and are generally based around a fit up and tech period in one of the theatres, but can be flexible around outside commitments.  Working hours can vary, with shorter hours in the early stages of the placement and longer hours around production periods to allow placements to fully experience the ebb and flow of working as a theatre technician.

Please view the full placement outline here.
