We are looking for a Deputy Director of Production and Technical to join the National Theatre Production and Technical Team on a 12 month Fixed Term Contract.

 

The Deputy Director of Production & Technical will work closely with the Production & Technical Director on the process of each production at the National Theatre from design delivery, rehearsals, and production periods through to show running and the final get out.

 

They will work alongside the Production & Technical Director and Heads of Departments (HoDs) to take on responsibility for the motivation, performance standards, safety and skills development of Technical staff, and will assist in developing an appropriate Health & Safety culture, and an ethos of skills development and technical excellence.

 

They will ensure a consistent experience for the Deputy Production managers, and support the Production & Technical Director to do the same with P&T HoDs and Production Managers as they develop the NT’s programme of work. They will contribute to the strategic and operational leadership to ensure that the departments are sufficiently well-resourced, flexible and innovative to respond to the artistic demands placed upon them.

 

This is a new role at the National Theatre, and the person appointed will need to use their skills of creativity and collaboration to shape and develop this role as it aligns with the evolving needs of the NT.

 

The successful candidate will have the following: 

  • Substantial experience and a proven track record in Production or Technical management within a producing performing arts company

  • A thorough knowledge of the production process, and an understanding staging/rigging/scenery techniques, lighting, sound and automation systems.

  • Up to date, in-depth working knowledge of health and safety legislation and its practical application

  • Knowledge and experience of working with the Theatre Green book

  • Evidence of the excellent communication skills and leadership abilities necessary to lead and support a team, including freelancers. This includes and awareness of employment best practice and mental health at work.
