We are looking for a Lighting Technician (G5) to join the National Theatre Lighting Team on a 22 month Fixed Term Contract.

This developmental role provides opportunities for Lighting Technicians to gain professional experience within a large organisation as well as on-the-job training from the National Theatre’s Lighting team to help them develop a professional theatre career.

This is not a placement or apprentice position, and applicants should have a reasonable level of technical ability as they will be expected to work alongside the National Theatre’s in-house teams on a day-to-day basis, producing and running shows to National Theatre standards.

There is a 3-stage competency progression within Grade 5 and all starters join at Stage 1. You will be assessed at pre-determined intervals during the contract period and should progress up to Stage 2 then to Stage 3.

It is expected that by contract end, you will have received the appropriate training and have the experience to apply for a skilled, professional Theatre Technician job (Grade 4 by NT standards).

 

The successful candidate will have the following: 

  • Previous lighting operational experience in large-scale producing theatre or touring.
  • The ability to carry out first-line maintenance and fault finding on modern lighting fixtures and control equipment.
  • An awareness of current Health & Safety legislation including Electricity at Work, LOLER, PUWER, risk assessment and working at height.
  • Good IT skills including the use of Microsoft Office and CAD software.
  • Self-motivated, pro-active with the ability to work well with others.
