We are looking for an Automation Operator for the War Horse UK Tour on a 4 month Fixed Term Contract.

The National Theatre’s acclaimed production returns in an all-new UK tour. War Horse is an unforgettable theatrical experience which takes audiences on an extraordinary journey from the fields of rural Devon to the trenches of First World War France. Based on the beloved novel by Michael Morpurgo, this powerfully moving and imaginative drama, filled with stirring music and songs, is a show of phenomenal inventiveness. At its heart are astonishing life-sized horses by South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company, who bring breathing, galloping, charging horses to thrilling life on stage.

Venues announced so far:  Wolverhampton Grand Theatre (Wolverhampton), Theatre Royal (Glasgow), Liverpool Empire (Liverpool), Milton Keynes Theatre (Milton Keynes), Royal Concert Hall (Nottingham), Grand Theatre (Leeds), Theatre Royal (Newcastle), Festival Theatre (Edinburgh), Wales Millennium Centre (Cardiff) and Theatre Royal (Norwich).

This is an exciting opportunity to join the touring production of War Horse. This role will be primarily responsible for operating automation equipment as well as coordinating the preparation and maintenance of automation equipment through the run, as well as supporting the get-in and get out.

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Experience operating and maintaining automation equipment and excellent technical skills, including a proven track record of dealing with complex automation issues.

  • Flexible and self-motivated approach with the ability to support colleagues and acting company and to form excellent working relationships.

  • Awareness of current Health & Safety legislation including LOLER, risk assessment and working at height.

  • Ability to work under minimum supervision and adapt work in accordance with performance requirements.

  • Experience programming automation consoles (experience with XM automation systems is desirable but training can be provided)
